RIO LINDA, Sacramento County — Rio Linda was the first unincorporated community to receive roadway treatments under Sacramento County’s newly launched chip-seal maintenance program in 2026.
In an August 6 county announcement, the Department of Transportation (SacDOT) said its crews began the program in July, using a lower-cost technique intended to extend the service life of pavement on county-maintained roads.
How does chip seal work?
The county says workers apply a binding agent, spread aggregate rock, compact the surface using rubber-tired rollers and sweep away excess material. A fog-seal treatment is then added several days later. The approach is intended as preventive road maintenance rather than the reconstruction of a damaged street base.
Does that mean every road has been repaired?
No. The county’s announcement does not claim that every Rio Linda street received the new treatment, nor does it specify that a particular block is free from potholes. Road condition and maintenance jurisdiction vary by street. Drivers should follow traffic controls and avoid loose aggregate in areas where chip-seal work is active.
Residents seeking information about an exact street should use SacDOT’s project notices and county service request system, providing the location and a description of the problem.
